Following a number of cancellations before Easter due to the Yorkshire weather, our Under 13 (year 7/8) and Under 15 (year 9/10) girls’ rugby teams made the short trip to Ripon Rugby Club to take part in the North Yorkshire Finals. With the majority of our players being in year 7 and 9 we were happy to see this year as development and a benchmark for next season. As ever, our girls played with determination, passion, belief and an unbelievable amount of skill to win the majority of their games and just miss out on qualification for the County final.
Our Under 13 side, led by Ripon Rugby Club player Hazel Carling faced a tough group but were more than competitive with the highlight being a 30-15 victory over Harrogate Grammar School.
Our Under 15 side were also led by one of Ripon Rugby Club’s very own, Emily Cooper, and with an England Women’s scout looking on, they topped their group with highlights being a 30-10 victory over Ripon Grammar School and a 35-15 win against Northallerton. With all to play for in the battle of the table toppers, we came up just short against a strong Bedale side made up predominantly of year 10 players.
A wonderful afternoon of competitive rugby at an excellent location, we would like to thank, in particular, Alec Porter and Tom Gilchrist from the RFU for organising the tournament and their continued support with the development of girls’ rugby at Outwood Academy Ripon.
