Sixth Form students at Outwood Academy Ripon celebrated outstanding successes in today’s A-level and AS level results, marking a year of excellent academic and personal achievements for students at the Academy, with an overall pass rate of 100%.
Sir. Michael Wilkins, Academy Principal and Chief Executive of Outwood Grange Academies Trust, said, "I would like to congratulate all students at Outwood Academy Ripon on their achievements and wish them every success as they move on. I would particularly praise the progressive leadership of Rob Tarn (Regional Chief Executive) and Steve Merifield (Principal) in enabling all colleagues at Outwood Academy Ripon to help these students gain these life changing results”
Results in English language, Literature, media studies and vocational qualifications were a real strength of the Academy, reflecting the range of specialisms of OAR. Furthermore the average point score for vocational qualifications was 237, significantly above the national average and representing an average grade of a Distinction.
Sophie Shields, is going on to study Social Work at Leeds Metropolitan University and commented, “I am over the moon with my results. I really enjoyed my time at OAR, the teachers were a delight and I will miss them”
Chloe Galley along with Courtney Bethell both attained 400 UCAS points, the equivalent of A*/A*/A, a remarkable achievement. Chloe Galley said “I am excited to be going to Northumbria University to study Business Management. My teachers have been so supportive and I really enjoyed sixth form”.
Harry Evans who achieved a Distinction* in Performing Arts and 360 UCAS points overall, will move on to Sheffield University to study media, Harry said “I am extremely happy with my results, sixth form has been hard work but a great two years”
Principal, Steve Merifield, said "Once again we are delighted with the achievements of our students and there have been some exceptional results. Every student attained the grades required to access their chosen University course or area of further training and employment, a great success. A pass rate of 100% is something to be really celebrated. Students and staff have worked incredibly hard over the past year and we are really proud of our students' results. Our Year 13 students now leave us for the next exciting and challenging chapter in their lives and we wish them well. Year 12 students have laid excellent foundations for the coming year and I am sure they will continue to push themselves. Some of our students were able to overcome really challenging personal circumstances to achieve excellent outcomes. I would like to once again thank all of the staff for going the extra mile with the students, the parents and carers for their continued support and the Academy Council for their unwavering commitment. The Outstanding Ofsted inspection this year recognised the many strengths of our sixth form and these have been reflected in the results."
Outwood Academy Ripon’s Post 16 is a truly comprehensive sixth form and we welcome all students who have a ‘willingness to achieve’. Students have the opportunity to study a range of academic and vocational qualifications in a highly professional, well-resourced and caring environment.
