Monday December 1st saw the first of Outwood Academy Ripon’s Aiming Higher workshop days where more able yr6 students from our local primary schools were invited to spend a day working with yr 7 teachers in English and Maths.
There were sessions on playing with poetry, learning how to present a powerful argument and writing with passion in Literacy and getting to grips with how numbers work in Numeracy.
Year 6 staff were in attendance to pick up some tips to take back to the primaries and students took away a range of resources and ideas to put into practise on their return to school.
Students commented “I really enjoyed the poetry and learning how to pause my writing to improve it” and “It’s cool, it’s like looking at Maths from a different perspective.”
Both yr 11 students and sixth formers spent some time with the students who all enjoyed themselves fully and left saying they wanted to come back soon.
