Post 16 Overview

Outwood Academy Ripon Post 16 aim for the highest standards in academic and personal achievement. We were classed as an outstanding academy in 2016.

Ofsted said:

•‘This is a outstanding academy with a good sixth form.’
•‘Students in the sixth form approach their learning with enjoyment and maturity.’
•Achievement in the sixth form is good in academic and vocational subjects’
•‘Sixth-formers value the variety of academic and vocational courses on offer.’

We provide high quality learning experiences for all students to ensure that academic progress is in the top 25% relative to each individual’s starting point. We work closely with our students to ensure that they achieve their academic goals whilst also supporting the personal development of each individual. We are extremely proud that significant numbers of our students go on to study at university. We provide students with opportunities to visit universities as well as to meet university guest speakers. Information, advice and guidance to students is provided, one hour per week, in a lesson of Guidance. Within these lessons students are encouraged to explore careers and make important decisions about their future. They receive a Praising Stars report every 6 weeks to update parents on their progress.
We are able to offer a wide range of curriculum subjects through collaboration with Harrogate High School. Transport is provided between lessons. Students are asked to complete four subjects in year 12 which may be reduced to 3 in year 13. Additionally all students who have not achieved a GCSE grade C in maths or English are required to study these subjects to gain these qualifications.
Dress code is business dress for all students and we ask students to remain on site during free study lessons to allow staff to meet with them and support to be offered.
