Outwood Academy Ripon brought the terrific energy of ‘Grease’, the original and best of all the high-school musicals, to Ripon. Fans of the show were delighted, as the love story between an innocent girl-next-door and the greaser began, and our hall reverberated with the classic songs. One could hear members of the audience joining in on each of the hit songs made popular by the well-loved 1978 film.
The time, effort, energy and commitment by all students and staff involved in the production was worth every second! The student-designed staging was simple, effective and classic; the choreography was relentless and simply brought the stage to life for the duration of the show. The costumes set the tone from the start and our new lighting and disco ball brought the 1950s to life.
Behind the scenes the stage crew were slick and helped to ensure a seamless performance. The talented orchestra set a high standard and along with some sensational vocals, created a musical performance full of confidence and fun!
Outwood Academy Ripon had characters who came alive on stage, songs that had the audience singing along, slick dancing, and an energy to engage. The fact that the show received a standing ovation on all three nights from a sold-out hall, attested to the enthusiasm, passion and energy of our students.
‘Grease’ ran April 19, 20, 21. The production was presented in association with Samuel French, Inc with thanks to writers Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Our thanks must go to all the local companies that helped support ‘Grease’ and help make it a real community production: The Ripon Uniform Shop; G Craggs Ltd and Appleton’s. Next year’s production looks set to take us to even higher theatrical and musical heights!
