This is a consultation on the possible closure of Outwood Academy Ripon 6th Form, which I would welcome both your and students’ views on. Whilst inevitably many of us will be sad to be consulting on this proposal, I do hope that you will agree that this is the right recommendation to make. Recent years have seen very small cohort numbers in sixth form. We currently only have 9 students in year 13, and 18 students in year 12, and this is clearly not viable going forward.
Fortunately, by combining with Outwood Academy Easingwold sixth form, we believe we can sustain a very high quality provision. Our small scale centre cannot offer the breadth and depth on its own that we can offer by joining both provisions at the one site. We already offer outstanding and independent Information, Advice and Guidance here at Outwood Academy Ripon, and will continue to do so to ensure every student makes the right choices for them post 16.
As you know, the last few years have seen Outwood Academy Ripon go from strength to strength, leading to the achievement of our Outstanding Ofsted rating.
Please note: the current year 12 will continue into year 13 with no changes and no disruption to their studies. Any student entering Year 12 will be provided with free daily transport to and from our Easingwold site, subsidised by the Trust, with planned bus pick up points at Morrisons, the bus station and Outwood Academy Ripon.
Clearly, your views are very important in the process, so please do take the time to read our rationale in the consultation booklet, and to complete the consultation form if you would like your opinion included in the final decision making.
